The project

Working around a live site

At Amber Farm in Norfolk, HWBC delivered the trenching and cable installation package for a 420kWp rooftop solar array and 430kWh battery storage system, installed across a working poultry farm on behalf of principal contractor Aniron Renewables.

Unlike a greenfield solar site, this was a fully operational agricultural building throughout construction — continuous power, ventilation and gas services in use, with no scope to isolate existing infrastructure. Every trench route was planned and dug with that constraint front and centre, and the battery units themselves were installed by controlled lift onto their ground-screw foundations.

Scope of works

What we delivered

01

Live-Site Working

Trenching alongside occupied farm buildings with continuous power, ventilation and gas services in operation throughout.

02

Cable Trenching

Trench routes excavated from the rooftop array’s inverter and combiner enclosures through to the battery storage units.

03

Battery Installation

Controlled lift of the 430kWh battery units into position onto their ground-screw foundations.

04

Cable Installation

MV and LV cable installed and marked to spec along the trenched routes, connecting the rooftop PV to the BESS.

05

Careful Excavation

Hand-dug sections where trench routes ran close to existing services, to keep the farm fully operational.

06

Reinstatement

Ground reinstated to working farm condition on completion, with no disruption to ongoing operations.
