The Project

The Copwood VFB Energy Hub is a pioneering renewable energy development in East Sussex, combining utility-scale solar generation with long-duration vanadium flow battery technology. Once operational, the facility will become Europe’s largest vanadium flow battery installation and a flagship project for energy storage in the UK.

HWBC was appointed to deliver the full civil engineering package across the development. Our involvement commenced with site establishment works, including compound installation, vegetation management and enabling works.

We subsequently delivered the infrastructure required to support both the solar farm and battery energy storage facility, including access roads, reinforced concrete foundations, ducting networks, earthing systems, CCTV infrastructure and associated civil engineering works.

In addition, HWBC constructed two balancing ponds and a comprehensive drainage network designed to provide controlled discharge into the local watercourse in accordance with the approved drainage strategy.

Following completion of the infrastructure works, our team undertook reinstatement activities across the site, ensuring all areas were restored in accordance with project requirements.
